Virtual Platform Description
The Simics Virtual Platform for the Freescale QorIQ P4080 models a complete QorIQ P4080 system-on-chip, including:
- Eight e500mc processor cores
- CoreNet interconnect
- Hardware virtualization support -- both processor core MMUs and the Peripheral Access Management Units (PAMU)
- Queue and buffer managers
- Frame managers, with 1GE and 10GE Ethernet connections
- Security engine (also known as CAAM)
- Pattern-matching engines
- PCIe, SRIO, and other external connections
- Symmetric and asymmetric software setups, including different operating systems on each core
- Internal utilities including timers, interrupt controller, clocking, and power
- Serial ports, IIC, and other low-speed IO units

The virtual SoC is on a virtual board that also contains models of the RAM and FLASH memories and PHY connectors for the ten Ethernet connections of the QorIQ P4080. The board can be extended with other device models to model a particular custom board based on the QorIQ P4080, including peripherals attached to the local bus, IIC, RapidIO, or PCI-Express interfaces.
The virtual platform connects to a the Simics virtual Ethernet network. This makes it possible to create networks containing other virtual boards, as well as the host machine the virtual platform is running on and other physical machines on the real network.
All standard Simics features such as checkpointing and restore, record, replay, repeat, reverse execution, multicore execution debug, device access and interaction breakpoints are available on the QorIQ P4080 virtual platform. You can also connect to your favorite external debugger using protocols such as gdb-remote, wdb-remote, and others to be announced.
