Simics used for the US Navy's Trident D5 Missile Guidance System
In this technical paper, Draper Laboratory describes how Virtutech® Simics® was used by Draper when they developed and tested the guidance system for the Trident missile, used by the U.S. Navy.
According to Draper, Simics "allowed the software development process to be decoupled from the hardware delivery schedule."
Draper also reported that they developed detailed models of the memory controller, databus, and memories in parallel with the design and development of the actual flight computer modules.
As Draper's target software matured, they began integrating Simics with a systems-engineering view simulator to create a fully virtualized flight simulation system that was capable of running the actual guidance system software on Simics with realistic flight inputs coming from the 3rd party systems-engineering simulator.
